About the Department:
MCA has been set up with sound fundamentals and foundations. The dedicated services of the Department to the community for more than a decade has nurtured numerous IT professionals. Master of computer applications was started at KLS Gogte Institute Technology, Belgaum in the year 1999 to meet growing demand of industries for personnel specialized in the fields of computers and its applications. The department has made a respectable recognition among the Institutes offering similar course. A glance through the alumnus indicates that, most of them are either well placed in the reputed firms or in reputed Institutions in India as well as abroad. The specialty of this department is that, all the faculty members are master degree holders from reputed Institutes with many years of teaching experience. Some of them have spent few years in the blue chip companies, which gives a broader and realistic perspective in teaching-learning process. Students carry out their VI Semester projects in reputed IT Industries like Infosys, IBM, Wipro, and Mind Tree,TCS, PSPL, Wipro etc.
The Departmental Library provide students with access to a vast repository of resources, including books and periodicals. During examinations it is open for 24 hours. In addition to this, faculty members dynamically upload all their lecture and question bankson the GIT Intranet for students. The Departmental Library stocks over 3000 volumes and subscribes to 13 reputed journals and periodicals in computer science and engineering related areas, as well in the area of computer applications, including journals like IEEE and ACM.
Eligibility for Admission:
Candidate with any Bachelors Degree in any discipline from any recognized University with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all subjects, including languages, if any. Must have studied Mathematics as a subject at 10+2 or equivalent, or at Degree level.
The Programme:
An advanced programme in Computer Application, this three year post graduate course focuses on both theoretical and practical aspects and applications of computer technology in enabling the students to be knowledgeable in programming, analytical ability, networking, computational techniques, operating systems, multimedia communication methods, simulation, modelling, artificial intelligence, Software Engineering, Software Testing etc. In today’s intense dependence on computers in almost every area of technology application, this course will give the firm footing for the student to succeed in care. The curriculum has been specially planned to suit the information technology industries as well as business organizations.
Faculty:
The department has experienced and strong teaching force comprising of Three Assistant Professors, Three Senior Lecturer and Five Lecturers. The faculties have been showing immense interest in encouraging academic activities to introduce new industry standards to the students. Faculties have membership of prestigious professional bodies like IEEE, CSI and ISTE etc. Most of them have upgraded their knowledge through additional training in advanced information technology.

Achievements of the Department:
Ms. Janhavi Madhav Belgaumkar has made her institute proud by securing three gold medals for having secured highest marks with first rank in Master of Computer Applications to visvesvaraya Technological University. She was awarded by R. N. Shetty Gold Medal, Jain University Gold Medal and VTU Gold Medal during 9th VTU Annual Convocation.
Our students have an outstanding talent and ability, which is manifested in their achievements at all levels. Several of our students have won prizes and appreciation in Technical Paper Contest, Skill Tests, Sports held at other engineering colleges.Our students also take up industry sponsored project and have successfully completed the projects offered by IBM, Infosys, Wipro, Mindtree, Tata Consultancy Services to name a few.
