The Library and Information Centre is the heart of the academic Centre at GIT. It has been designed to meet the information needs of the undergraduates, postgraduate, research scholars, faculty and staff members of GIT. It has a collection of over 97000+ Volumes and 24000+ titles that supplement the teaching, research and development of Institution. The demands of the ever-growing research areas multiple disciplines is being catered with the help of latest volumes, in almost all fields Engineering, Science, Technology, Management and general areas.

 The Library has membership to VTU Consortium and AICTE Consortium for E-Resources. It has subscribed 8000+ National and International peer reviewed e-Journals access through IEEE, ASCE, Science Direct, Springer, Knimbus, ProQuest, Taylor and Francis, database. It has also access to 16000+ e-Books from Springer, Taylor and Francic and CRC press publisher. There is IP based and unlimited access to all E-Resources for its users. The Library enabled cloud based remote access service to all VTU-Consortium E-Resources for faculties and research scholars of GIT.

The Library has active institutional membership to DELNET organization. The DELNET provides Inter Library Loan and Document Delivery services for books and journal articles to its member’s institutes. The DELNET has connected with 5000+ institutional, public and special libraries in India and around the globe.

The entire collection has bar-coded and fully automated by using the Koha Integrated Library Management Software. The Library offer many services to our patrons like Automated Circulation System, Online Public Access Catalogue, Online Purchase Suggestion, Database Orientation, Patron Management, Inter Library Loan Facility, Government Book Bank Facility, and Special encouragement for top 3 students in all branches, News Paper Clipping and Selective Dissemination of Information etc.

Library works for 14 hours a day from 08.00 A.M. to 09.00 P.M. on all working days. Below are the opening timings along with the different section. Library staffs are working in three shifts on rotation basis.

      • OPAC (Online Services): Online catalogue facility is available to users through internet. The link for accessing our OPAC is http://library.git.edu.  As per the website count statistics, the total visitor view the OPAC is 77023 (as on Dec 2015). Every individual patron has the OPAC account credentials to access their account.
        The main features of the OPAC are to check the availability of books, self renewal of borrowed books, online reservation and online purchase suggestions. Find loan periods, renew, or place holds. Check your library account for what is checked out and when books are due.Circulation Services oversees and enforces loan policies for items held by the Library. This Service provides information on how many items may be checked out and for how long.
      • Digital Library Services: Digital library with an excellent infrastructure has been setup at the Library and Information Centre. This has been a classic setup designed by our computer center with latest Computers.
        Online access to the e-resource portals of ASCE, CRC Press, IEEE DL, Springer, Science Direct, Taylor & Francis(Trail Bases), Knimbus. NPTEL, these services are IP enabled and can be accessed anywhere in the campus.
      • Inter Library Loan Service: 
        The Central Library offers inter-library loan service to its users for the books not available in the GIT library by procuring them from Developing Library Network (DELNET) The GITs Library, in turn, also lends its resources to the libraries of other government and academic institutions. Library is active member of DELNET, It is Resource sharing networks/consortia, (like Inflibnet)  VTU Consortia, AICTE consortia.
      • Reference Services:
        The Library maintains a separate reference collection consisting of encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, handbooks, atlases, etc. Reference books are marked  “R”
        The Reference Section facility is extended to the students, staff and faculty of the Institute from 08.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. Saturday 08.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. on all working days.
        Readers may approach the Reference Desk for information or any assistance in the use of the Library Collections and Services.
      • Periodical Services
        A good number of journals and magazines both technical and general in nature are subscribed to library. Latest issues will be displayed as and when received.
      • Book Bank Services: The eligible students may submit online application to get extra 3 books for entire semester in the GBBS Section.
      • Current Awareness Service:  In order to keep library users, informed about the latest additions, the following are displayed on regular basis:
        Recent additions of Books, List of journals received displayed on plazma view , Announcement of information on national / international Conferences/ Conducting events from library etc..
      • User Awareness Programme Services:
        The library takes an active part in the orientation programme organized by the institute for the benefit of new students in the beginning of academic year. Any user desiring to know more about library resources and service or to learn how to use a particular resource like OPAC, e-journals, databases etc. should contact In (Circulation Counter).
      • Photocopying Services:
        Today, reprography plays a very important role in the transmission of knowledge within library resources and services. The Reprography Service at GIT Library helps to preserve rare and special material and collections from being stolen or mishandled and, therefore, maintain availability of the resources.
      • CD-Rom services: 
        Our CDs accompanied with purchased books and journals, some complementary CDs, and Magazines’ CDs and DVDs. CDs will be provided to refer through library systems as well as issued home.

        Department wise Top three students will get extra-books for entire semester to achieve better marks or score.

      • Other Services:
        Access to NPTEL – E-learning Courses: Elearning platform is using in the institutional level and maintain by library and Information Centre.
        Automated Circulation System: Library is fully automated with latest version of KOHA- Open source integrated software. It is hosted in online server and maintained by in-house experts. The entire collection is bar-coded.

Circulation section is the gateway between users and documents so it plays a major role to any Library and Information System. Our Circulation Section performs issue, renewal, return of books using Koha software. Apart from these basic tasks many other jobs like membership registration, issue no-dues certificate, inter library lone, overdue fine collection, book reservation, various e-mail alert generation, etc. and all kind of queries by the users are being performed by this section.

  • General books are issued to all eligible members as per their entitlements.
  • The reader has to check the condition of books while borrowing, in case the books are found damaged, mutilated or spoilt while returning, the reader has to replace the same as a new book.
  • A book can have maximum one renewals.
  • Absence from the college will not be allowed as an excuse for the delay in the return of books.
  • If the due date falls on a holiday for the Library, the next working day will be taken as the due date.
  • Books are renewed if there are no reservations against the book.
  • The borrower will be responsible for any loss or non-return of any books issued against his / her.
  • Loss of library books should be reported to librarian immediately. Overdue fine will be collected till the book is replaced or returned.
  • Auto email overdue reminders are setup for all the members.
  • If you made any changes in profile, confirm the same to circulation counter.
  • Cell Phone to be switched off inside the Library.
  • Strict and absolute silence shall be observed in the Library.
