The Research centre in the Department of Industrial & Production Engineering has been recognized by VTU in the year 2005.

The Major areas in which research is being carried out include

1. Manufacturing technology
2. Composite materials
3. Product Design & Development
4. CAD/M, Feature Extraction & CAPP
5. Design of Experiments (DOE) based approach

At present 4 Research scholars have registered & pursuing their work in this Research centre.

A.  Ph.D. Programme

The Degree conferred will be Ph.D. in Engineering- Research Centre at The Industrial & Production Engg, GIT, Belgaum

Requirements for Ph.D. in Engineering Faculty

a) The candidates shall possess a Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology of VTU or any other University, recognized by VTU or any other Degree which is equivalent to the Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology. However, a candidate possessing Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering subject and working in National Laboratories, R&D Laboratories attached to Industries or such other Research Institutions or Industries can directly seek registration for Ph.D. programmes if he / she has published a work of outstanding merit or a work recognised for Patent rights.

b) A Candidate shall have obtained minimum of 60% or equivalent Grade in either at Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree examinations as considered for the declaration of Class/Grade by the concerned University. However, a relaxation to the extent of 10% shall be allowed for
c) Candidates belonging to SC/ST and any other category as notified by the Government of Karnataka from time to time.
d) Candidates with a minimum of five years experience either in teaching or research, subject to the provisions of these Regulations.
e) In addition to the above, the candidate shall have qualified in the University Level Research Aptitude test, the results of which shall be valid for a period two years.

B.  M.Sc. (Engg.) Programme

Master of Science in Engineering by Research, abbreviated as M.Sc.(Engg.) by Research.

Degree conferred will be the Degree of Master of Science (Engineering) by Research (abbreviated as M.Sc.(Engg.) by Research).

Admission to the M.Sc.(Engg) by Research Course

The course is open to candidates who satisfy any of the following requirements:
a) Candidates who have passed B.E. / B.Tech. Examination of VTU or B.E. /B.Tech. of any other recognized University, recognized by this University as equivalent thereto or any other examination recognized by this University as equivalent thereto and have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with not less than 60% of the marks in the aggregate, in the examinations of the semesters considered for the declaration of class/grade. However, a relaxation to the extent of 10% shall be allowed for candidates belonging to
SC/ST and any other category as notified by Government of Karnataka from time to time.
b) Teaching / Research Staff / Teaching Assistants, working in any Engineering College and Polytechnic Institutions recognised by AICTE either in the State of Karnataka or outside, who have passed B.E / B.Tech. Examination and put in a minimum of one year of teaching experience in Engineering Colleges / Research Organisations and sponsored by the respective Institutions / DTE in
case of aided institutions.
c) Employees of the State Government/Central Government/Quasi Government Organizations/Public Sector Industries/Reputed Private Industries, who have passed B.E./B.Tech. Examination and put in a minimum of one year of working experience and are sponsored by the concerned Organizations.
