Orientation course
A four day Orientation course for 1st sem students was conducted to introduce to the freshers the course.

The course included story telling, movies, sketching on site etc. It also included Basic design exercises like, -10 Rs composition, Abstracting, Paper cutting, line excercise etc.
The students showed excellent interest and achievements

Orientation week for First semester Div A & B consisted of different exercises, talks and movies of architectural works.
Exercises-
1. Introduction
2. Reflections-students were told to represent reflection in any form like, paints, sketch, poem, story etc
3. 10 Rs shoppe- any item costing less than 10 Rs was selected , sketched, abstracted to form a motif. Stencil was prepared and this was repeated in different ways in a 25cmsx25cms to form a composition. This composition was painted in shades and hues of any single colour.
4. Collage- with themes like- Festivals of India, Male celebrity, Female celebrity, colours in nature
5. Movies- works of architecture movie like the Jewish Museum were shown to the students.

Under History of Architecture subject of 2nd semester, students make detailed study and presentation of the Historical periods such as Classical Greek architecture, Roman Architecture, early Christian architecture, etc.
17 May 2010 can be written in golden words in the history of the department of Architecture at G.I.T. on this day many things converged to mark it as one of the memorable days. The high points were Ar Prem Chandavarkar, Inauguration of permanent Exhibition space-'Spandan' and 'Aura',release dept magazine -OCULUS-V2
In Architectural design studios, students present various case studies relevant to the chosen topic.
For Climatology in 3rd Sem, to develop the knowledge required for understanding the influences on climate in architecture. Students present seminars on climatic data, reports, and also present graphic charts in the form of plates in different topics.
Under Theory of Architecture, VI sem. Seminars are conducted on the theories and ideas of various architects to understand the significance and student did an exercise where they had design a spiritual space reflecting the ideas of a particular architect.
Under Contemporary Architecture, VI sem. Seminars are conducted to understand each architects designs and principles. Each student were asked to present seminar on different architects (Indian & Others).
For Planning, VIII Sem, Seminars and discussions are conducted to give an introduction to the disciplines of urban, rural and regional planning and to develop the skills to prepare the layouts with proper infrastructure.
